Safety first

Verify that no persons are within the machine's safety zone before start-up. Confirm visually and announce "Start-up Line 1" to surrounding personnel.

Purpose

This procedure describes the approved method for the daily start-up of Line 1, including the NX-200 flow wrapper and associated conveyors.

Scope

Applies to all operators on Line 1. Must be carried out every working day before production begins.

Required Equipment and Materials

  • [ ] Personal protective equipment (hearing protection, safety footwear)
  • [ ] Start-up log — Line 1 (folder at the panel)
  • [ ] Film for the day's production (check against production plan)
  • [ ] Cleaning cloth (dry, lint-free)

Procedure

Step 1 — Visual inspection (approx. 5 min)

  1. Walk around the entire line and check visually:

    • No foreign objects on conveyor belts or inside the machine
    • All safety covers are in place and closed
    • Floor around the machine is clean and free of obstructions
    • Emergency stop buttons are in the home position (not pressed)
  2. Check the film stand:

    • Correct film type for the day's production (check against production plan)
    • Film roll correctly mounted and free to rotate
    • No folds or damage to the film

Step 2 — Connection (approx. 3 min)

  1. Open the compressed air valve (blue handle, left side panel) slowly.
  2. Check the pressure gauge: operating pressure 5.5–6.5 bar. Contact technician if outside range.
  3. Switch on NX-200 via HMI (green on/off button, front panel).
  4. Wait until HMI shows "READY" (green indicator, approx. 30 seconds).

Step 3 — Warm-up period (approx. 10 min)

  1. Press PRODUCTION on the HMI.
  2. Load product recipe: RECIPE → select product name from the list → LOAD.
  3. Allow the sealing jaws to heat up to operating temperature — HMI shows progress as a percentage.
  4. Check temperatures on HMI when warm-up is complete:
    • Upper jaw: 175–185 °C ✓
    • Lower jaw: 160–170 °C ✓

Temperature out of range

Stop the start-up and contact the shift supervisor if temperatures are outside the above ranges after 12 minutes.

Step 4 — Test production (approx. 5 min)

  1. Place 3–5 test products on the infeed conveyor.
  2. Start the machine: press START (green button, HMI PRODUCTION tab).
  3. Collect test packages and check:
    • [ ] Seal is complete — no open seams
    • [ ] Film not burned through
    • [ ] Package is airtight — squeeze gently and check for air
    • [ ] Cut position is correctly centred

Approved: Start full production and note the time in the start-up log.

Not approved: Stop the machine, adjust parameters and repeat test production. Note the deviation in the start-up log and contact the shift supervisor.

Step 5 — Registration

Complete the Start-up log — Line 1:

  • [ ] Date and time of start-up
  • [ ] Operator's initials
  • [ ] Product name and recipe number
  • [ ] Result of test production (approved / deviation)
